Terms of Use
Last updated: March 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using The Lanyard (“the Platform”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
2. Review Standards
By submitting a review, you confirm that:
- The review is based on your own real, first-hand experience attending the conference.
- The content reflects your honest, genuine opinion.
- The review is not defamatory — meaning it does not contain false statements of fact presented as true that could harm the reputation of a person or organization.
- You are not a competitor of the conference organizer, and the review is not submitted on behalf of a competitor or as part of any coordinated effort to harm a conference’s reputation.
- You are not submitting a fake, incentivized, or otherwise inauthentic review.
3. Permitted Content
Reviews on The Lanyard are a place for:
- Opinions — your subjective assessment of talks, organization, value, venue, and overall experience.
- Personal experiences — factual accounts of what you personally witnessed or experienced at the event.
4. Prohibited Content
The following content is not permitted and will be removed:
- Threats — any content that threatens or intimidates individuals or groups.
- Hate speech — content that attacks or demeans people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics.
- Personal information — posting private personal information about yourself or others (including names, addresses, phone numbers, or financial information).
- Fake or inauthentic reviews — reviews not based on genuine attendance or experience.
- Unsubstantiated criminal accusations — accusing any individual or organization of criminal conduct without credible supporting evidence. If you believe a crime occurred, we encourage you to report it to the appropriate authorities. Reviews containing criminal allegations that are not substantiated by publicly available evidence (such as court records, news reports, or official findings) may be removed at our discretion.
5. Content Ownership & License
You retain full ownership of the reviews and content you submit to The Lanyard.
By submitting content, you grant The Lanyard a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, and promote your content on the Platform and in related marketing materials. This license exists solely to operate and improve the Platform and does not transfer ownership of your content to us.
6. Content Moderation & Takedown Policy
The Lanyard reserves the right to remove, edit, or decline to publish any content at any time, with or without notice, for any reason — including but not limited to violations of these Terms.
Takedown requests: If you believe content on the Platform violates these Terms or applicable law, you may submit a takedown request by emailing thelanyardapp@gmail.com. We will review the request and, where appropriate, notify the author before removing their content, giving them an opportunity to respond. We are not obligated to restore content that has been removed.
Authors whose content is flagged for review will be notified via the email address associated with their account where practicable.
7. Platform Liability
The Lanyard is an interactive computer service. Reviews represent the opinions and personal experiences of individual users — they are not statements of The Lanyard. We do not verify the accuracy of user-submitted content.
Pursuant to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Lanyard is not liable for content published by its users. Users are solely responsible for the content they submit.
8. Privacy
Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy. The Lanyard processes personal data in accordance with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and, where applicable, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page whenever changes are made.
